euqp Eva Mendes in Bill Blass – I Want That!_2919

Eva Mendes in Bill Blass - I Want That!
Lately Eva Mendes has been hiding under giant maxi dresses or channeling Lucille Ball in 50s frocks. But we know she isn't prim and proper so we welcome her new look - complete with a new darker do and short, strapless Bill Blass dress - with open arms. Hot!

This just in: yellow is the "it" color for '09. Eva just confirmed. We also think blue eyeliner could really make it too, you know, on chicks as sexy as she anyway.

Just one more thing before we part, did you fall off of your chair while checking out those Loub's? Oh the tears of Louboutin joy!

Eva Longoria-Parker - Look For Less
As actress Eva Longoria knows, good things come in small (and gorgeous!) packages.

The sultry star of "Desperate Housewives" (which kicks off its new season this weekend) relies on perfectly-proportioned separates to elongate her petite frame. And although she's only 5' 2", her outfits always pack plenty of sex appeal, since she opts for fitted tops, deep necklines, and a curve-hugging skirt or pants.

Fortunately, it's a look that can be achieved on any budget, even if you don't live on Wisteria Lane.

Even jeans and a simple top can be glamorous and sexy. To give your basic weekend look some va va voom, pair a fluid top in a soft, flattering color (like this sweet shade of pink) with shapely snug jeans. And don't forget a couple bold accessories, like Eva's snakeskin peep-toes and Valentino bag.

Looking for an evening outfit that’s polished but still smoking hot? Start with a couple extra-feminine pieces — like Eva’s slim pencil skirt and décolleté-enhancing blouse — that are as sophisticated as they are sexy. To keep the look designer (instead of, um, desperate), choose classic, low-key accessories like diamond studs and a pair of sleek black pumps.

Yuwk Dress of the day – Sweater dress by Tahari_37

Dress of the day - Sweater dress by Tahari
This sweater dress makes you look like you're actually wearing a cable-knit sweater and a black pencil skirt! Awesome - because now you can pull off the classic look without looking frumpy - the "skirt" is smooth and sleek, so you'll look more like a woman and less like a fisherman. Not that we have anything against fishermen, we swear.

Jjet DressRegistry.com Prevents Same-Dress Embaras

DressRegistry.com Prevents Same-Dress Embarassment
There is nothing worse than showing up to a big event in a dress you love -- then realizing you're not the only one wearing it. Enter Dressregistry.com, a new Web site that promises to save you from that particular social trauma.

Simply log into the site and find or create the event in question. Then upload the details (and, if you'd like, a picture) of what you're wearing. Voila. You officially have dibs on your dress.

Thing is, this probably works best if you can talk everyone you know who's invited to the same shindig into signing up. Or if you are obnoxious enough to e-mail everyone announcing that you've registered your look and warning them not to cop your style.

But as someone who once wore the same dress to her eighth-grade graduation as the girl in her class who ate crayons, we will certainly give it a try. (It was a really cute dress, ok?)

DIY Design -The Fastest and Coolest Sewing Projects on the Web

A classy clutch is simple to make, but totally impressive. Photo: Lance Tilford, Limelight Studio/diystyle.net

While we all know that there are more than enough fast and tacky sewing projects out there, finding fast and hip projects on the Web can be a major task of sifting through search engine results.

Here, I've gathered a few of my absolute favorite fast and fashionable projects available online, some free and some for a modest purchase. After all, if you're going to spend even a single precious afternoon sewing, you want the outcome to be fabulous and the envy of all your friends and family, right?

Both the ladies and gents will be itching to whip up these Lacey Tanga pretty ladies' undies and low-rise men's undies projects created by Sew Fast Sew Easy/Stitch and Bitch site. For just a few dollars, you get a materials list, a PDF pattern, and an online video that can be downloaded 10 times, rewound and replayed to your heart's content.

You'll find a host of free pattern projects on DIYStyle.net, including vodcasts like the NY Trench and Chic Foldover Clutch Purse. My personal favorite for easy chic is the Low-Sew, High-Style Halter.

I'm a sucker for vintage patterns, and I just couldn't resist this one-hour 1920s frock. You'll also find many other quick frocks, cloches and retro aprons available for sale for a song in this great vintage pattern site.

When I began sewing again, one of my first projects was a duvet. Nothing compared to the return on investment on this project -- armed with good taste and rudimentary sewing skills, you can quickly dress your bed to impress. Try this easy pattern, or maybe this one.

One of my all-time favorite fast-sew resources is a magazine I launched: Quick Stuff to Sew, Volume 1. It's crammed with 25 fast and fun DIY sewing projects, from super-quick dresses, skirts and handbags to flip-flops and PJs. While the magazine came out about a year ago, you can still order it and other volumes here.

This is just a taste of all the great projects that are out there. If you need to brush up on your sewing skills, read some recent columns on cutting out patterns and virtual sewing circles. Next week: Looking for vintage in all the right places to get your restyling on.

Dpba DIY Design – The Notion of Tools_1684

A designer is only as good as his/her tools, and these days, you’ll find some of the very latest and greatest online.

In sewing circles, these tools are called notions, and here are a few of my absolute favorites:

Transferring accurate markings onto your fabric is critical for good construction and that requires more than the standard and messy tailor’s chalk found at chain fabric stores — it cracks and crumbles and can be hard to remove.

Enter the elegant, heart-shaped Chakoner (below), which lays down a chalk line so precise you’ll smile every time you pull it out of your kit. The chalk has just the right consistency, not too dense or too faint.

While I prefer traditional chalk, you can also go spy-style with dual-marking disappearing ink, water soluble pens.
Flexible rulers, from 16 to 40 inches, can be a designer’s best friend, especially when you are draping and navigating the curves of your dress form.

Unlike a traditional measuring tape, they hold their shape — a lifesaver for designing, drafting and fitting. To see how to use it, check out this fab video tip.

DIY Design - The Notion of Tools

Great tools make the designer. Photo: David Prince, Corbis

Surgical supply stores are a surprisingly great resource for sewing and design tools. Consider the bad-boy hemostat (as in "Nurse, hemostat!): It's the perfect tool for pulling things through tight spaces and embellishment work like ribbon- and fabric-weaving.

Rolls of examining room table paper are a great substitute for pattern paper (and much cheaper), especially when you buy the rolls in bulk. (Though tempting, don't even consider "borrowing" this awkwardly-sized item from your doctor's office!)

Tool Tip: Looking in unexpected places like surgical, office supply and hardware stores can save you money over the usual marked-up and pricey sewing shops.

Next week, we'll discover some of the best DIY fashion blogs around, so you can start your sewing, stat!

Chris Brown Poses With a 'Beaten Up' Jean Paul Gaultier

Chris Brown is all smiles as he poses with a "bloodied and black-eyed" Jean Paul Gaultier at the designer's Paris menswear show. Photo: Getty Images

Chris Brown, the singer infamously known for beating up former girlfriend Rihanna, posed with a "bloodied and bruised" Jean Paul Gaultier yesterday in Paris.

Gaultier was in the City of Lights for his fall 2010 runway show at Men's Fashion Week, which featured a boxing theme complete with a catwalk-side ring and big, bruiser models sporting boxing gloves and faux lacerations on their chiseled faces.

The designer got into it as well with a "beaten up" face himself, courtesy of makeup artists, that is. Brown attended the show after being spotted at men's shows in Milan earlier this week.

While we're used to a publicity stunt or two from fashion's front row, this picture of the singer posing next to Gaultier reads as just plain callous and conjures up those horrific images of a bloodied and beaten Rihanna. She suffered real injuries, ones involving no makeup.

Brown's big ol' grin doesn't help lighten the unavoidable allusions to his Rihanna attack. Honestly, we think it was in really poor taste and shows complete lack of judgment and sensitivity on Brown's part.

But what do you think? Was it inappropriate for Brown to pose with Jean Paul Gaultier given his assault charges? Or are we being overly sensitive and reading into things?

Plus, should Jean Paul Gaultier have invited Brown to the boxing-themed show in the first place? Leave a comment!

Meanwhile, hear Rihanna's side of the story. The Barbados-native talked to GQ about her abusive relationship.

Feeling like you could use some uplifting news this week? Then get ready, because theOutnet is hosting a blowout Christian Louboutin sale starting Tuesday, March 23, before noon ET.

The drool-worthy sale is just another smart move Christian Louboutin has made recently.

Besides inspiring a Jennifer Lopez song (who can forget her notorious catsuit-clad performance of “Louboutins” on New Year’s Eve?), the shoe designer teamed up with young label Ruffian for Fall 2010 and provided just the right bit of boost for models at J. Mendel’s pre-Fall 2010 presentation.

For more glitz, the “Paquita 120″ satin gladiator heels in gold (above) will go for $348.25 instead of their usual hefty $995.

With these seriously slashed prices, footwear fanatics will surely rush to be the first ones on theOutnet. So arm yourself with your mouse and be ready to click!

In the meantime, check out the limited-edition Barbie that Christian Louboutin recently designed.

rlzu Chris Benz Fall 2010 – Runway Review_460

Chris Benz Fall 2010 - Runway Review

Photos: Chris Moore/Catwalking, Getty Images

DESIGNER: Chris Benz INSPIRATION: The great outdoors meets renegade debutantes

TOP LOOKS: Camo-colored fur with mint green dress with embellished crystal detail; cheery plaid ensembles such as suits, coats and jackets; shiny lurex cropped jacked with warm blue mini-dress; tangerine day dress with matching vest and hoodACCESSORIES: Fur! In the form of hats, hoods, and mittens.

WHO WAS THERE: Susan Sarandon, Kelly Osbourne, editors galore

WHAT WE THOUGHT: With almost entirely black collections so prevalent on the runways for fall, walking into Chris Benz's presentation on the West Side of Manhattan was a much needed breath of (colorful) air. The designer prides himself on utilizing bright palettes and did so with aplomb this season. Fabrics - such as shiny lurex, soft crochet knits, and plush furs - were as diverse as the assortment of colorful hues.

There was a silk tie-dyed gown in hues of peach, chartreuse, and blue; a nectarine orange day dress with matching vest and fur hat; an embellished lime green mini-dress with matching camouflage fur hoodie. Plaids were imagined in funky checked combos of yellow, purples, pinks and green and came in the form a suit, coat, and low-rise cropped pants. The latter was paired with a sleeveless floral print top with cutouts and worn under a super embellished matching plaid jacket. It was a look Benz's devil-may-care debutante would pull off glamorously in detention.
